FAQs

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy and is offered to you by trained, professional therapists who provide a safe, supportive and confidential environment. Supported by your therapist, you will find the space you need to explore the issues you are experiencing in your life and to bring new self-awareness, understanding and perspective to what is going on for you.

How much are counselling sessions?

Counselling can change your life. However it’s so important that you feel comfortable with your chosen counsellor.

Our first appointment together will be an opportunity for you to meet me, talk over the issues that are bringing you to counselling and enable you to check that you feel comfortable.

If you would like an appointment, simply email me at Tess@elcs.life or leave a brief message with your name and phone number on 0131 510 1396.

If you prefer me to not call, leave me your email address and I’ll reply via email.

After your first introductory appointment, regular 50 minute appointments are as follows: –

  • Online counselling – for an individual – 50 minutes – £55
  • Online counselling – for a couple – 50 minutes – £70
  • Face to Face – individuals – £55
  • Face to Face – Couples £70
  • Evening appointments starting from 5pm – for an individual £90
  • Evening appointments starting from 5pm – for a couple £110

How long are counselling sessions?

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes and will usually be at the same time and day each week or fortnight.

What is your cancellation policy?

As a self-employed therapist, having a busy appointment diary is vital.  If you book an appointment but cancel at the last minute, I’m not always able to fill the appointment with another client and so would lose the income.

Therefore, should you need to cancel a booked appointment, please give a minimum of 48 hours notice.  You can cancel by calling 0131 510 1396 (leaving a voicemail if I’m with clients) or emailing tess@elcs.life

If you unfortunately need to cancel a session at short notice, perhaps because it clashes with other plans that you have since made, please note that I will use your payment made in advance to cover the cost of the missed appointment.  Where payment was not made in advance, I would still politely ask that you cover the cost of the missed appointment.

I’m single or my partner won’t come, is it OK to attend on my own?

Yes, you can attend for counselling as an individual whether you are in a relationship or not. Individual counselling offers a fantastic opportunity to get to know yourself better, to grow as an individual, to gain greater self-awareness and better self-esteem. Click on the Individual Counselling tab for other reasons to consider individual counselling as part of your journey towards self-growth and greater well-being.

Do you work with LGBTQ+?

Absolutely. All our clients are valuable, unique individuals and are treated equally and with dignity, respect and understanding.

I’m in a poly relationship can I have counselling with my main partner?

There is a thriving poly community in Edinburgh and across the Lothians and you are welcome here to explore any issues you are experiencing in your relationships. You will find a safe space in which to talk through what is going on in your life and help you reach a place of greater clarity.

I have a disability – can I still have counselling?

Yes our counselling services are open to all.

The Practice room is located on the ground floor with toilet facilities located at the same level. There is free parking right outside. There is a single step to enter the practice.

Hearing Difficulties – If you have hearing difficulties, you might want to consider online counselling communicating with your therapist using either email or instant messaging therapy.

Visual Impairment

If you have a visual impairment you might be interested to know that in addition to our face to face appointments, you can also have telephone counselling at a time of your choosing. Email info@elcs.life for further information

How do I pay for appointments?

I ask all my clients to pay for their appointments in advance of their session. When you book your first appointment, you will receive an emailed Welcome Pack which includes information on how to pay for your first appointment.

Appointment fees are £55 for individual counselling and £70 for couple counselling.
